Choosing President Wisely

Once in five years, people in Indonesia will get into euphoria in welcoming President Election. The candidates of President will take many ways to promote themselves, so do the supporters. However, supporters do not always make a good way to support their candidates. So, as a wise elector, there are several things that can help to consider the best leader for Indonesia, such as watching the candidates’ debate, read their biographies and find the fact.

Before an election is held, there is always a candidates’ debate to show off their visions to develop Indonesia and how they will bring Indonesia to prosperity. People can see whether they have the same vision with the candidate or not from this debate. Although this debate is aimed at people’s goodness in order to make people not misjudge the candidates, sometimes the irresponsible people play dirty and spread hoax. As result, there are problems that will come following the candidates’ debate. Thus, the elector must be wise facing this phenomenon by not getting provocative without thinking any further about the truth.

Mass media will focus on the presidential candidates as the election comes closer. However, the news isn’t always objective and it’s often one-sided. Therefore, people need to understand how to distinguish the fact and the fake news. As the alternative, people can just read biographies. Biographies of the candidates can be accessed easily from the internet and are available in the bookstores.

Even so, the biographies today sometimes are manipulated by those who are fanatic of the person, in this case, the candidate. Now the question emerges: who can be trusted as the information source then? The fact is the answer. If someone wants to be a wise and smart elector, he/she will gather a lot of information that is based on the fact which the reliability can be approved. For example, people may say that this candidate works hard night and day. As a smart elector, someone cannot just trust that information right away. He/she needs to clarify, whether it is true or not. By asking the question, how to prove the statement? Someone can just find it in the news about how this candidate did the work. If most of the projects he promised had been done well, so one might say that this statement is true.

Finally, to be an elector is the people’s right, but to be a wise elector is a choice. Becoming a wise elector also help Indonesia to be a great country with wise people inside. Therefore, as a good elector, people need to be careful filtering the information around them.
