Multicultural: Many people from many different regions all over the country gather in a University and live their life as a college student. This gathering, however, becomes so colourful by the variety of the students’ backgrounds. Anyhow, this cultural encounter may cause several problems, such as communication problem, social gap and racism. These problems might rise into bigger problem or trigger more serious problem.
The communication problem is a common problem that firstly comes up when a cultural encounter occurs, because the first interaction that is made by people is speaking. One will find his/her way to start a conversation to make a friend. However, these two people might have a different background (in this case: accent) so that the difficulties in understanding the other will come as a communication problem.
The second problem is social gap. It is created after the communication problem. Speaking makes people know who the others come from. It can be defined by the accent, the mixture of language and so on. Somehow people will create groups with the others that they are comfortable with. Commonly, it’s divided into the elite groups and the poor groups. People who come from the capital city will mark themselves as the elite one. And those from the village are the poor one.
Multicultural which means that there are more than one race in it, are potential to make a problem. Racism is a problem that can be dangerous because there are some races that will prefer to solve the problem violently.
These problems can be ceased by the personal consciousness. For instance, people tolerate the differences among one another, so that they will be able to go through the multicultural problems without any obstacles.
